His first notable roles were in a series of "teen" themed movies, but he won critical acclaim for his performance as Bob in Gus Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy.
He also wrote and directed the 2002 film City of Ghosts, starring himself, James Caan and G?rard Depardieu.
